COMMUNITY TRAIL TALES

"When I was a much less experienced kayaker, I neglected to read a tide chart before heading to Metompkin Island, Virginia out of Gargatha Landing. The tide was too low to paddle and I got stuck in thigh-high mud! I nearly had to call the Coast Guard to come airlift me out of there, but I was able to shimmy across the mud in my kayak for several hundred yards until I was in navigable water again - and I was 7 weeks pregnant at the time! Yikes!"
